Various water saving incentives
Examples include low-flush toilet rebate in certain municipalities. Richmond also offers up to $200 to upgrade washing machines to higher efficiency ENERGY STAR washer. Finally your municipality may also offer a voluntary water metering program meaning that you would pay for only the water that you use.
Various energy conservation programs
Home-owners that get high efficiency natural gas fireplaces installed with BC Hydro and Fortis BC will receive rebates. BC Hydro and Fortis BC also offer rebates for energy efficient upgrades up to $5,300 per household and free energy saving kits for income qualifying customers. The city of Vancouver and Vancity are offering a $125 rebate for the purchase of 1 of 3 smart thermostats. Finally, BC Hydro Power Smart are offering, with some municipalities, $100 rebates to the purchase of ENERGY STAR clothing dryers and refrigerator.
CMHC Mortgage Loan Insurance Premium Refund
When home buyers purchase energy efficient homes or make energy saving changes, they receive CMHC mortgage insurance, a 10% premium refund and a possible extended amortization without surcharge.
Low interest renovation loans
Vancity Home Energy Loan personal loan offers home owners the ability to make "greener" renovations to their homes by offering up to $50,000 at prime and 1% for up to 15 years. Additionally, RBC's Energy Saver loan offers 1% off the interest for a fixed rate installment loan over $5,000 or a $100 rebate on home energy audit on a fixed rate installment loan over $5,000.
